Japanese Odd-tooth Snake

Japanese Odd-tooth Snake

Order Squamata, Suborder Serpentes, Family Colubridae

They are found throughout Japan (including some areas of Hokkaido), and inhabit a variety of environments from mountainous areas to plains. They are nocturnal snakes, and often hide between rocks during the day, making them hard to spot, so their numbers are said to be low, but in some areas they are not so numerous, and they have been spotted in the Futakuchi area in the past.
